Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian ODI Lineup Versus India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise selection.

Recent Form Result in Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI team following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has played 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

There have been indications of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Additions and Fitness News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a back injury in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
