An IT issue at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

Every arrival and departure were suspended after an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with many others experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Officials linked the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
